Sibina Eftenova and Desislava Tsvetkova took part in the monthly event “Up-to-date with AHK”, organized by the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GBCIC), presenting key points related to Directive 2022/2381 on improving gender balance among directors of listed companies and related measures and Directive 2023/970 on new pay transparency measures.
Directive 2022/2381 of the European Parliament and of the Council, adopted on 23 November 2022 by the European Parliament and the Council, aims to promote gender equality in the workplace and to support women’s participation in decision-taking. The Directive provides that by the end of June 2026, at least 40% of non-executive directorships or at least 33% of all directorships in listed companies should be held by the under-represented gender. Member States should, by 28 December 2024, adopt and publish the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with the Directive.
Directive 2023/970 of the European Parliament and of the Council on enforcement of the principle of equal pay for equal work or work of equal value through pay transparency and mechanisms for enforcement was adopted on 10 May 2023 by the European Parliament and the Council. The Directive provides for job applicants to receive information on initial pay or its range before the job interview or by other means before the conclusion of an employment contract, in a way that ensures informed and transparent pay negotiation, for example in a published vacancy notice. Employers with 50 or more employees should provide their employees with easy access to the criteria used to determine pay, pay levels and pay increases, etc. Member States should bring into force the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with the Directive by 7 June 2026 at the latest.
The provisions of the Directives will ensure a better working environment promoting the principles of gender equality at work in decision-taking and through pay transparency.
