On 09.10.2024 atty. Galin Popov – Chief Managing Partner at “Popov, Arnaudov & Partners” and Executive Director of the Non-Food Traders Association discussed in the studio of “Good Morning, Europe” on Euronews Bulgaria television the frequent cases of “petty” theft and the preparation for acceptance of the euro in the country.
Atty. Popov paid special attention to the “pandemic” of petty theft. Regardless of the motive for committing the thefts – whether they aim for personal gain or resale of the goods, the increase in illegal activity is a fact and sometimes turns into a business. He believes that the reason is not rooted in rising market prices, but in greedy human nature that makes citizens want to get more by giving less. Atty. Popov said that the state should intervene in the situation and implement effective measures to control and limit this trend, giving an example of a foreign practice where traders offer their goods behind a window, thereby reducing the opportunities to carry out encroachments drastically. Thanks to this method, the prices do not include the possible losses for traders, which is also positive for consumers.
Another topic of the interview was the introduction of the euro in the country, for which Atty. Popov shared that our entry into the Eurozone by 2025 depends mainly on the reduction of inflation and emphasized that prices on the Bulgarian market are currently higher than those in Europe.
